Note: No Shakespeare here, just a quick drabble that popped in my head. I think I may have sent myself into sugar-shock, actually.

As Martha disappears down the corridor to fetch a cup of tea, the quiet hum of the TARDIS settles around the Doctor.

“Better with two.”

Unheeded, words and phrases whisper through his mind as his hands fly over the TARDIS console, setting coordinates for the next destination.

“My Doctor.”

There’s power in words. He’s always been logically aware of that fact, but the concept seems to have lay buried in his subconscious until now.

“Forever.”

He’s a Time Lord. He worships at the alter of math and science. So easy to forget that language could wield an energy that was just as impressive in its’ own right.

“I made my choice a long time ago.”

There was one major difference between what the Carrionites believed and what he knew to be the ultimate power, though. While they sought to end life and further their own selfish goals with their incantations, the words that held sway over him were reminders that there were things worth fighting for. Worth saving.

“I love you.”

They kept his hearts beating.
