Little Women - The Musical

Jan 24, 2012 22:58

My first exposure to Little Women was not reading the book when I was five years old -- in fact, I was twenty-four before I ever picked it up.  It also wasn't the 1994 movie -- at least, not exactly.  I remember seeing at least part of it at my grandma's house as a kid and hating it because it wasn't a cartoon, but I'm sure I didn't see more than ( Read more... )

this post is mostly about jo, discussion, father march doesn't exist, jo is the only character in little women, jo again, character: jo, jo is very important, musical, picspam

I'm really away from Broadway, and only hear the songs on covers from others stagings.

It seems like a good production, though, I'll only have to wait 20 years to reach my country

Thank you! Through this post I found out that there is even a German version of this musical even if it wasn't played in one of the big musical towns like Hamburg or Stuttgart. Only some minor or amateur groups translated the musical but still... maybe I have luck and can see it sometime... even if I will miss Amy as a main character. :(

Btw, the 1949 movie has the title "Kleine tapfere Jo" which means "little brave Jo" and it totally fits one of your tags. *le sigh*

Oooh, I'd *love* to see a German production of Little Women. I'm sort of obsessed with German musical productions (or was. I've fallen out of it in recent years, and haven't kept track of many new shows).

Like I mentioned it was only played by some amateur gruoups. I think there are some songs of the German version on Youtube but I'm not sure...

Personally I always thought Germany has a really small musical scene. Lots of my favorite musicals like 'Rent' or 'Spring Awakening' never saw the light of one of the big musical halls.

I'm mostly into shows like Tanz der Vampire and Elisabeth. Also a lot of Frank Wildhorn shows -- He's an American composer, but his shows do so much better in Germany and other European countries (mostly Hungary and Austria) that he's stopped even bothering to bring his new stuff to Broadway. Also, the German production of Starlight Express certainly tops all other productions. And when I saw 3 Musketiere in Berlin the production values were amazing.

I do like Spring Awakening and Rent though. I saw Spring Awakening on Broadway four times, and Rent twice. :)

The musical sounds hilarious! If I see a theater production of LW one day...just for laughs ;)

I want desperately to catch a performance of this the next time they do an off-Broadway tour of it.

HEE, I remember reading a synopsis when it first came out and I was like "...wow, they totally got rid of Father. How does that work?"

Very funny recap! I saw a production at our university, and it was a fun experience, though I disliked the portrayal of Amy. She was too bratty. Our Marmee had such a great voice; we gave her tons of applause after "Here Alone."

I'm excited that somebody else has seen it. :)
