thanks? I didn't think it'd be that interesting to the general public, but...maybe one day. O_o

It is pretty interesting, but it's hard to try and sound smart, so I usually don't want to talk about it. XD

Generally though, I'm going to study UTSA students that will be or are learning Mandarin, and test how well they can discriminate between a pair of tones that may be the same or different. I'll record their EEGs, analyze them, and if they're similar to native speakers' data, then that'll support the idea that adults' perceptual system is still plastic and can re-attune itself to perceive and process sounds that were previously unattended.

Hm, well, there is a correlation between producing and perceiving, but I think it's the opposite: people that can produce tones well can perceive them well also. I guess that makes sense.

As for me, I'm the opposite. I can't label the sounds the save my life, but I can reproduce them okay...I think? I don't know any Chinese people well enough to ask them if my pronunciation is okay. O_o My mouth definitively feels strange after trying. But it likes it♥
