Hi there! Welcome to Story Time! Me--I don't care about folks knowing, but I'm old and I've earned it, plus there's not much impact it could have on real life.
Okay, so obviously a really old post, but on the off chance that you still read it...
Yeah, I do sometimes worry about 'real life' people reading my stuff. So, most people don't even know I have a LJ account. I never post real pictures of myself or my family, and if I divulge any details about my 'real' self (location, etc.) it's in locked posts that only my LJ friends can see. When I started posting more 'mature' writings, I unfriended the couple of people I had as friends in real life (I don't even think they noticed). I did have one girl that I know that used to read my stuff, and I realized I was purposely toning down my writing for her, so one day I just posted that my story was taking more of a hardcore turn and now might be the time for sensitive readers to jump ship. She hasn't read since then...
So, I'd recommend not using your real name, locking personal posts, and not letting people you're not interested in reading know you're even around.
Since that post Myspace and Facebook et al have taken off. LJ has really seemed to focus onto story writing and obscure hobby groups. LJ seems to me to be more of an obscure introspective place vs the everyday contact that FB enjoys.
Oh by the way, I only really use LJ as an access to fic. I don't post and don't have a big profile. I find it hilarious that I have more spam messages then 'real' messages (as can be seen in some of the above comments).
Thanks for the message. I'm still reading your awesome firefly/chuck CO. I'll post my gushes to your page when I'm finished.

Perhaps because I'm from a small town I feel the way I do.
I just get freaked some times 'bout it all.
