Shopping Zara

Ok girls, talk to me about Zara.  I've ordered one item from them that I promptly sent back because the sizing was all wrong.  But I've just spent some time on their site filling my cart and am really curious as to what the quality of their merchandise is like.  I so badly wish we had one in Washington so I could see some of these items myself.  I ( Read more... )

This is a really good question for Zara! For some reason, Zara is one store where every single piece of clothing fits wonky. Not just like they fit ME wonky, but they'll cut their clothes differently for the same piece. It's really hit or miss. I'd say you can try your luck, but it wouldn't be the best bet for online success. They do have super cute things, though, so it might be worth taking a chance.

This is exactly what I was going to say, the sizing is different it seems for most anything. The only time I purchased anything from them when I lived in WA was on my semi regular trips to Vancouver BC. I do love their stuff though and get it now that I have one in town where I can try it on.

Generally, I never buy there because I find the quality to be very similar to the F21/H&M stores, but with a higher price point. Occasionally I shop those places, but I just hate the idea and implication of mass disposable goods (cheap clothes, Ikea, etc). I really try to limit that kind of shopping.

IMO you're not missing out in WA!

Another reason why I have to try them on, the quality is also hit or miss. I have purchased a few things that have decent quality and are worth the price but other stuff is definitely cheap feeling hence the sizing right?

This is my opinion as well... I might by a "1 season" item but I'm unlikely to find one of those at a good price point at Zara.

ha, I was just there yday! I wound up buying one of those blazers I posted a while back.

yes, the sizing is totally weird and I find it even varies from piece to piece in the same size (kind of like old navy). I also feel like their price point has jumped a bit in the last year or so - they were more like the gap and now they're more like banana republic in terms of pricing. and I don't think the quality has improved.

like those blazers I posted - I am glad I saw both in person. they were both $129 and there is no way in hell they are "worth" that price in terms of quality. IMO $79 would have been more appropriate. they are nice - but not $129 nice.

style-wise I love their stuff. but I also think it is scaled for people who are tall - like 5'5' and definitely up - so it's very hit or miss for me (and I say this even for the smaller sizes). you could always try ordering but just keep in mind that you may wind up having to return everything!

I put that Zara poofy shoulder blazer on my Xmas list, but I was wondering what the quality was like.

I don't buy a lot from Zara, but it's totally perfect for you because it's very work chic. I'm either in scrubs or yoga pants, so I just don't have any places to wear their clothes, but they're SO reasonably priced. I'd liken it between Banana Republic and Forever 21 in terms of quality. They're not super high end pieces that I'd want to spend over $100 on. But totally cute for trendy stuff. Can't help much with sizing - i just don't buy much from them, ever. We have one like 45 minutes away, so I don't get to that mall very often!

If you can shop the Euro site, I'd recommend it over US. Zara was my favorite store when we lived in Italy, but the American sizing is just so off, sadly.
