Character Information
General
Canon Source: Kuroshitsuji
Canon Format: Manga
Character's Name: Ciel Phantomhive
Character's Age: 12
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.
Seeing as Ciel is no ordinary child, he should be fine in Siren’s Pull. The little Earl runs his own business, works for the Queen herself and far more mature than any 12 year old is or should be for that matter. Due to his parent’s death, Ciel was forced to grow up and grow up fast. Powered by bitter scorn he’s an intellectual not to be trifled with. He can easily converse with adults and manipulating people is quite easy for him. However, this is all good and well when Sebastian is with him. Without Sebastian he’s going to have to learn how to take care of himself and tie his shoes, quickly. Life in Siren’s Pull will most definitely force Ciel to act and figure out the mundane daily survival skills everyone else seems to possess.
What form will your character's NV take?
This fancy mofo. Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Ciel has no abilities aside from being able to order Sebastian around and using that big brain of his to plan, plan, plan.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
Ciel will eventually find himself able to transform into a cute, little black cat. The ability would remain dormant until Ciel eventually comes into contact with a cat himself. As soon as that happens, as an onset of his allergic reaction to cats he’d start feeling strange later on. The transformation process would, until being fully developed, only work in parts and an incomplete transformation would be painful to endure. (Incomplete such as fangs/ears/tail) While stuck in an incomplete version of the transformation, Ciel would be allergic to himself and would either have to transform entirely to the form of a cat or revert back to normal to get rid of the symptoms.
Once he masters the ability however he’d be able to switch effortlessly between each form and unlike a normal cat, still retain his vocal abilities of human speech. Until he gets used to it however, he will not be able to retain the form for very long without suffering the consequences of feeling drained afterwards and in the worst case scenario possibly falling victim to an asthma attack.
In regards to his allergic symptoms from being in contact with cats, it’s certainly nothing life threatening unless his asthma resurfaces. (And even then, seeing as Siren’s Port isn’t stuck in the 19th century, he’d be fine if he manages to get a puffer.) Due to cat hair his skin would feel itchy, his nose would be stuffy and he’d find it hard to breathe. It would be no different to an allergic reaction to various plants during allergy season which can be relieved with over the counter medication.
Weapons:
Ciel’s only weapon is Sebastian, who, sadly, isn’t here. Bad butler D:<
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Here.
If one had a time machine, and went back in time, they would find a strikingly different child than the boy now known and revered as Ciel Phantomhive, the Queen’s little watchdog of the underworld. Once a happy, carefree child born to an Earl in England who was the head of the Phantomhive toy and sweet company, Ciel no longer embodies the happiness he once possessed. Rather, it is the sorrow and vengeful hatred due to the loss of everything he once loved that has shaped him into the quiet, calculating and powerful individual he is now.
On the day he turned ten, Ciel’s life changed completely. The elegant mansion which he’d spent ten years of his joy filled life went up in flames, taking not only the life of his parents, but in turn, the innocence every child is entitled to. What was thought to have been an accident was a deliberate attempt on his parents’ lives by a group of cultists. They succeeded and, not satisfied with merely murder, leaving Ciel’s mother, father and dog dead to bathe in their own blood, they kidnapped Ciel with the intention to sell him either for his organs, as a slave, or even worse - a human sacrifice.
It was a month of torture, of hell - a hell Ciel would never be able to erase from his past. Degraded and forced to do unspeakable things, along with being chained and caged like some exotic little pet, Ciel was branded with the mark of his ‘owners’ on his back and was eventually stabbed and sacrificed to summon a demon. The demon in question who was summoned was none other than Sebastian who presented Ciel with a choice:
Either he could die here, or he could be saved by the likes of a demon and bestow his revenge on all those who had humiliated him. Sure, the latter choice would cost Ciel his soul, but that was a small price to pay. It didn’t take long for him to make his decision. With a sharp tongued command, Ciel ordered Sebastian to kill every individual present in the room and of course, Sebastian complied quite willingly. A covenant between the two had been made, and the contract was boasted as an ornate pentacle on Sebastian’s hand and the identical seal decorated Ciel’s right iris. Sebastian would be Ciel’s loyal servant right up until the day he died and in return, would receive Ciel’s soul once his revenge had been fulfilled.
Returning back to the heap of rubble and ashes that was his former home, Sebastian had the mansion rebuilt to its former glory, without a detail spared in the process. When it was finished, it was as if the fire had never taken place in the first place.
For the next few years of his life, Ciel had taken up his father’s role as the head of the Phantomhive company and, in turn, also took on his late father’s other duty - to be a watchdog of the underworld for the queen of England. He was to keep an eye on black market dealings that took place which Scotland Yard could not keep tabs on or deal with. Aside from the messes and disasters that happened due to the four incompetent servants that served Ciel along with Sebastian, things were for the most part, relatively calm.
This calm however was broken when the case of Jack the Ripper struck the London streets and set the city in panic. Like the loyal dog he was Ciel was sent to investigate the case. It was a gruesome set of crimes. Women - mainly prostitutes - had been killed in abominable ways. Each of them had had their uterus cut out with the precision of a surgeon. Knowing this meant the killer had to be someone with medical background Ciel ordered Sebastian to create a list of all the possible suspects. Out of all of the individuals listed the only one that fit the profile was Viscount Druitt, a rich aristocrat. He was throwing a party and with the help of his Aunt Madame Red, Ciel effectively managed to slip into the party masquerading as his Aunt’s niece. His cover was almost blown however due to his fiancé Elizabeth’s unexpected attendance to the party. She began to chase after Ciel due to adoring the dress he was wearing and so, it was a very dangerous mission.
Eventually he managed to catch Viscount’s eye and before Elizabeth could catch him, Sebastian and Lau distracted her with a magic trick. The disguised Ciel and the infatuated Druitt slipped up to his room. Ciel was already in hot water when he realized, quite too late that he was in trouble. The room he’d been lead to was filled with incense and before he knew it, Ciel was drifting off into a drug induced haze...
Point in Canon: The end of chapter seven.
Character Personality:
Mature way beyond his years, Ciel is a kid who has had to grow up too fast. Unlike the child he was before his parent’s death, seemingly normal and happy, Ciel now comes across as a cold, distant individual with a bossy and no nonsense attitude. On the surface he appears to be a spoilt rich little boy whose favour lies with the Queen, however there is nothing normal about Ciel’s psyche in comparison to those his age. He is quick witted and intelligent, with the ability to outthink adults quickly to get what he wants. He’s also not above manipulation if it will get him further ahead, even at the expense of others. Every move and action he performs is carefully calculated to yield the best results in his favour. There is nothing kind or sweet about Ciel Phantomhive, despite his fair face. He’s a soulless individual with an inextinguishable flame for revenge and despite being human, there’s certainly something about his stubbornness that summoned Sebastian to him. As a child who sold his soul to a devil, Ciel is certainly no normal twelve year old.
Due to suffering at the hands of his kidnappers after his home and family were burnt to ashes, Ciel holds a very firm belief that no one truly cares about him or his well being. After all, no one came to his rescue when he was trapped in a cage or made into a pitiful sacrifice. In turn, he himself truly cares little for others, lacking the ability to fully empathize with anyone. To Ciel, everyone is merely a pawn in the grand scheme of things, laid out on an oversized chessboard for him to control and move accordingly. With his great interest and incredible skill in games, he sees and approaches most problems and tasks as games to overcome and beat. It’s safer that way - to regard everyone else below him, for once a pawn stops becoming a pawn and something more - that’s when problems start to arise.
There are very few people Ciel truly does care about, even if he will not let on otherwise. One of these individuals would be Elizabeth Middleford, Ciel’s fiancé, which he knew before the fire had taken place. Despite this fact however, Elizabeth, or ‘Lizzy’ is one of the people who annoys him beyond belief. This care for her is simply because she is someone from his past he used to be fond of, not because he feels any feelings for her. In fact, if anything, Ciel feels pity toward Lizzy for being engaged to him, simply because of the fact he’s sold his soul to Sebastian and can never truly be hers and for the fact his life will certainly be cut short as soon as he completes his revenge. Ciel also seems to somewhat care about his servants but that is more than likely just because they are responsible for his well being and protection. Without them he’d be a King without any pieces to command on the game board and that certainly wouldn’t do.
When it comes to something Ciel doesn’t understand, it frightens him, and instead of attempting to understand it, he will push whatever it is away for fear of his weaknesses being exposed. He refuses to display weakness in front of anyone, playing the part of an adult always. Of course, under this facade he is merely still a child, and his butler Sebastian is one of the rare and lucky [or rather unfortunate] individuals to witness this side of Ciel. Ciel has experienced the lowest of the low of humanity and deals with scum as part of his job to the Queen. Due to this, the little Earl is unable to place his trust in most people. In fact, the one person who Ciel perhaps truly trusts ironically is Sebastian, for despite Sebastian being a demon, unlike humans Sebastian never tells lies. Sebastian also is completely under his control and with Ciel as his master Ciel can be certain that Sebastian will always listen to him, do his bidding and never, ever abandon him.
While he may be mentally independent, Ciel is horribly dependent on others for his survival. Without Sebastian to meet all his fundamental needs, to dress him, bathe him, and feed him, Ciel is truly just a lost, little boy who finds himself pathetically unable to even tie his shoes by himself. He is made even feebler in appearance; due to not being physically well off due to his asthma and allergies to cats. While his asthma usually does not present a problem it has once or twice in the series come back to make Ciel short of breath or even bedridden due to the fact he’s from the late 19th century. Not many things frighten Ciel either, due to not only his past, but his experience as the Queen’s watchdog. However, Ciel is not without fear - absolutely not. Under his coy, bratty smile lurks the fear of being abandoned and judged for his tainted, unclean past. Ciel is still just a child of twelve, regardless of how mature he presents himself.
There are also times in the series where the reader is reminded how cynical and disturbed Ciel Phantomhive truly is at the core. Perhaps the most impacting example of this takes place during the Circus Arc of the manga. While investigating the disappearance of children, Ciel finds himself kidnapped again to be sacrificed. Rescued by Sebastian and having found the poor children caged and so starved and conditioned to torture instead of save them, Ciel orders Sebastian to burn the whole infrastructure down, along with all the children inside. Sebastian himself tries to reason with the deranged boy but Ciel furiously demands that the whole place has to burn, along with all the children inside.
He also freaks out immensely as he watches a young girl be sacrificed in the same fashion he was before he orders the place to burn. This sight causes him to relive his past and he recalls how terrible it was to be caged like an animal. He pukes and finds himself clinging to Sebastian for dear life before ordering the demon to kill everything alive. His reason for his outburst and decision later on was that they were beyond saving. Sebastian remarks while Ciel was freaking out asking the Earl if there’s something he’s afraid of, that it’s okay for he’s on the other side of the cage. Although the reader is subject to small flashbacks of Ciel’s dark past, this is truly the time when the true effects of that experience on the boy’s psyche are entirely visible. It’s not a stretch to say that similar triggers that would remind him of his experience would create similar or smaller outbursts.
Ciel also has a strong affinity for tea and especially sweets. The little Earl adores pastries, cakes and other tasty treats that Sebastian makes freshly for him daily. In fact, he becomes somewhat grumpy if he misses out on his dessert.
Character Plans:
As soon as Ciel arrives he’ll want out of the stupid dress he’s in and fast. Immediately. He’ll be upset, irritated and completely screwed for lack of a better word. He’ll get to work quickly on trying to find a trustworthy individual to exploit and try to figure out just how much say and power he has in this world. (Aka none cause he’s a silly 12 year old boy) He MIGHT attempt to go to school but I doubt that’d last very long. If anything, he’ll be struggling to dress himself and do things like tie his shoes. Ciel will have to learn how to be truly independent which will be a fun (read: horrible) experience for the little Earl.
Appearance/PB:
On his arrival he’ll look something like
this but he usually looks like
this when he’s not been forced into a dress.
