I was reasonably sure it was safe to peek. X) This is my favorite part of the book so far! I NEVER BELIEVED FOR A SECOND THE MANDERLYS WERE DOWN WITH THAT LANNIFREYBOLT SHIT. RICKOOOOOOON
I fist-pumped at that bit, I honest to god fist-pumped. XD My heart sank in the chapter before that when Manderly told them to cut his head off. Part of me thought he wouldn't actually go through with it because I didn't think GRRM would telegraph Davos' death so obviously but then again, he's enough of a troll to do just that. And his letters home to his wife and kids just killed me. And then he thought, "well, I'm going to die. At least I learned to read and write."
The bit where he thought about learning to read made me wibble. Now I want him to find Rickon and smuggle him into every enemy castle in the world so Shaggydog can bite faces off. (I guess Rickon is on Skagos now? And how the fuck did that happen, I wonder??)
I'm starting to be overwhelmed by the size of this world. I feel like a new location is introduced every chapter and a new character on every page. The Grazdak zo Whatevers, etc. in Dany's story are the worst. I'm losing the Fear of people I like dying though...too many fake deaths abound. Also, I'm dreading the Tyrion chapters and I love Jon Snow all of a sudden, what the hell?!
I don't mind the Dany chapters so much this time because at least she's realising that politics, economics and war is a little more complicated than "HEY EVERYONE, I HAVE DRAGONS. PUT ME IN CHARGE."
I liked one of the later Tyrion chapters but only because Jorah gave him a clout. X) I just don't like this left turn into Creeperville that Tyrion's taken. I wasn't exactly thrilled with him at the end of ASoS but his early chapters in this book really left a bad taste in my mouth. Also, his cunning is looking more and more like an author informed skill because he seems to get himself in trouble with his mouth more often than not.
I enjoyed the Dorne chapter too. Oh, Doran. "Now come on, girls, we've got plotting to do, listen to your old uncle, behave AND STOP WHEELING ME SO FAST, JESUS." X)
And as horrible as they are, I'm really enjoying Theon's chapters. I mean, yeah, the Frey's are horrible but Ramsay Bolton is just a whole new level of horrid and he's strangely fascinating with it. He's a serial killer with a lordship and that's
