One short, or: why losing one of the few truly strong female characters out there is a bad idea

Nov 12, 2013 01:26

Let me start this by confessing something that, to some, sounds almost like a dirty little secret. In fact, many perfectly rational people cringe if they are ever forced to bring up this particular secret with their friends and family, because while it has become so commonplace to have a "coming out" and stand up for your likes if it concerns ( Read more... )

You nail so many valid points why this character has instill passion in viewers, and explain it on a very personal level.

How do you feel about me posting a link to this page/entry on the NCIS facebook page? It would potentially bring in more supporters, but also open you up for more negative attention.

Maybe an alternative is available? Maybe a copy/paste of the entire or select parts that I could post with credit to you without a link?

I don't know, it just might resonate with others of a like mind and add the kick folks are needing to push CBS for her return.

Linking is fine. This was made for spreading, so feel free. Wanted to post a link to my own FB in a bit anyway.

You did indeed nail it. I am one of those "over 60" viewers that watched NCIS but I never really watched crime dramas much before. I started watching NCIS on the USA network and it was the Ziva David character, as played so beautifully by Cote de Pablo, that drew me in to watch every time the darn show was on. I never could adequately express why I liked her so much, or, quite frankly, I have been essentially grieving since we learned the idiots at CBS let her go. You did it for me and so much better than I could. I have not watched since the second episode this season. There is no draw any more. Thanks for sharing,

No, thank you! :)

When her leaving was announced, I was grieving hard for a few days. And then I remembered that for years, fans got shit done, and so I started fighting to bring her back. You wouldn't believe how much better I felt since then, because yeah, there's a strong possibility we will still go down and this will all go nowhere, but at least I'll go down fighting, doing all I could, making my voice heard. It's the least I can do for this gorgeous woman - both versions of her.

I have written a few letters myself and emailed certain "powers that be" and you are right, it does make you feel somewhat better. Still grieving a little, though. Thanks again.

Well, waking up to the fact that Eric Van Lustbader (!!!) read it and called it brilliant... that was a damn good start, let me tell you...

Every word you wrote hit home with me, my heart hurt inside for what was done to a great character. I cannot watch a show that does not respect the feelings of so many faithful fans. I was so disappointed that the writers changed Ziva to some weakling that turns her back on the Team and especially Tony when their lives are in danger. No way that the Ziva that I watched for eight years would walk away because of Ari. I guess that is why I hurt inside and tear up when I heard about how they wrote her leaving the show. If they had respected the character that they created and us as fans this could have been a WIN for the show but instead they broke my heart. When I think about everything that was done to her character over the years, and like you stated we were waiting on the promised happy ending. And with so many unanswered questions that the writers created year after year.....I want her back to complete the story. I get so frustrated with people that have settled and said "Oh well let just except the change and move on". NO! NO! NO ( ... )

Very well said, Sammy. You articulated perfectly why this show - and Ziva in particular - has sucked so many of us in and why we've become so attached to this little fictional family. The very first episode I ever watched was Shalom and I remember instantly being intrigued by Ziva. My interest grew when I discovered she was Israeli (I have a huge soft spot for Israel and its people), and by the end of the episode, I was falling hard for her (and the rest of the team too). And so began a 5-year love affair with NCIS ( ... )
