I think this is one of the few things where I disagree - this didn't feel like one of the more intimate confessions to me, and I didn't get the impression that he's close to spilling his feelings. To me, it actually felt like a reaction to her (paraphrasing, don't have the ep on the laptop yet) "And you kept me away from that, weren't you thinking?!" Felt more like a, "Dammit, Ziva, I'm not stupid, and I had good reasons for that!"

I didn't see it as an admission that he's close to spilling his feelings, it just resonated very ambiguous as if he's talking about the case but he means his own personal feelings from the poignant pause and the determination in his voice.

To each their own though! :)

The scene where he holds her hand is a mindblowing moment, simply because of the incredible intimacy between them. How Tony sort of moves into the gap in her armor, much like he almost forces his hand into hers until she accepts it and grabs it. She's so insanely open and vulnerable there, and you're right, he's hovering over her like an over-protective angel.

You're totally right, the guardian angel image is mindblowingly perfect. And I also agree on the embrace vs hug - hug is really too weak a word for the incredible intimacy they shared there.
