I am currently in a room at the Oxford University Club, listening to Hertford's "silent disco" (a misnomer if ever there was one) from the floor below. Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi" was just greeted with wild enthusiasm; the attendees appear to be word-perfect. (That said, aren't we all?)

Why are you in Oxford? <3

Rob and I came up for a 1264 Society event (a new society at Merton that you get to join if you give money to the college, basically. While still a student or in the first year after leaving, you automatically become a member - only for a year - if you donate at least £12.64. After that and up to the age of 30, it's £126.40; after that, £1264. We thought we might as well see what it was like while it was still cheap, and the event - a lecture on biodiversity and a champagne/afternoon tea reception - was a good excuse to come to Oxford for a day). And then helle_d had a housewarming party, which was lovely.

Amazing for finding ways to get money out of its alumni, or for giving us champagne and cake? (Champagne wasn't initially on the invitation; we first heard about it when a reminder email was sent yesterday. There is speculation that the MCR has some left over and they are giving it to us to get rid of it.)
