Bill’s hand slides down the banister as he descends the stairs. “What’s that?” he asks his brother. Tom is stood at the bottom, reading something.
“Christmas cards,” Tom answers. “From the Gs.”
“What?” Bill makes a face. “They sent us cards?” Tom nods. “What idiots. Now I feel bad because we didn’t send them any. It’s probably too late now, too, three days before Christmas?”
“They won’t care,” Tom tells Bill firmly, climbing onto the bottom step to bring himself closer to Bill’s level.
“That’s-” Bill starts, but the rest of his stubborn words are muffled by Tom’s lips.
