'tis beautiful here! My sister lives in the mountains in North Vancouver in a lovely little shingle house and everything looks like a postcard. Today I walked in REAL forest. Like the type from the books of my childhood - huge pines, oaks, firs, moss, ferns, squirrels! We swum in the most spectacular river of melted snow. I've eaten berries by the ( Read more... )

San Francisco is not a good snapshot of america (For the record). But I'm glad you had your first American experience! Maybe some day you can visit me in Orange County (Between Los Angeles and San Diego). It's very nice here, and reminds me a lot of Sydney / Wollongong.

San Francisco is a lot like Sydney - we loved it there! you can really see what the town would have been like during the gold rush years. One day is definitelly not enough though - next time spend a bit more time and have a good look around. The people we met were pretty nice as well.
But, yeah, california, in general, is not a true representation of america.

if you didn't like SF you need to make sure you NEVER EVER go to LA!

Uh... k. Care to be more specific? Cuz there's a lot of great things to do and see in LA. Though I would agree that parts of LA are very dirty (and some dangerous), there are many cities like that (even Sydney, though admittedly to a lesser extent).
