You're right that it isn't normal behavior for a 5/6 year old. It isn't normal behavior for any child. It's likely that he's re-enacting trauma's which have been afflicted upon him though.
If you've already talked to the preschool, they should be doing something about it. They're required to in most states. If not, they make themselves liable for a lawsuit. So, just keep on them. I hope it gets better for Pooka soon.
