I cannot decide what to dooooooo. This summer I have a couple of months off, and it's going to be the last time that I have such a beautiful stretch of time to do as I please. I want to make the most of it and go away for a goodly amount of time and do something special etc etc etc.

I have narrowed it down to two options. And now I am stuck.

the gunmen shootings there this morningYou frightened me! Well, not really, because there's always shootings and such, and if it had any direct bearing on me someone would have called me. But the shooting was in Lahore, Pakistan. The gunmen shot at the Sri Lankan cricket players' bus, but it didn't happen in Sri Lanka ( ... )

Okay, now I feel silly! I just saw the headlines this morning and assumed the violence was actually IN Sri Lanka. Thank you for correcting me :)

Gah, it's such a hard decision! Going to India to do community work would be just such an amazing experience, and I think would really force me out of my little European bubble. On the other hand, I would like to travel alone and bumble around Italy and Europe and feel that thrill of acually being able to communicate and immerse myself in their culture.

It sounds like you have great arguments for both and could have a fabulous, meaningful time doing either. Have you factored in weather and disease?

I don't think, btw, that Option 1 will ever be too late. It may not be possible for several years, but even full-time working adults can save up vacations or take time off between jobs.

Hmm that's true, I suppose. I just feel that projects like that are great if you have the time to give them and to let yourself really get involved.

Re: weather: possibility of monsoon season is putting me off! Hygiene/disease is another factor but one I feel I can cope with as the company I'm looking it is pretty experienced and provide slightly less basic accomodation usually. The thought of modern, sunny, comfortable Italy is very tempting, though, however much I try not to focus on that!
