"Ready for your... present?" Owen whispered, grinning wickedly at Gwen that morning.
Gwen had strongly questioned the veracity of Owen's earlier warning, but he'd insisted it was longstanding, generally welcomed tradition for Jack to bed Torchwood employees on their birthdays.
Rubbish. Jack wouldn't be that inappropriate. Still... doubt nibbled at her. It was Jack. The rules just seemed different.
By evening, she just had to know. In Jack's office, she asked innocently, "Got anything for me?"
"Hmm? Oh, Gwen!" Jack rummaged, producing a greeting card. "We all signed it. Happy birthday!" He smiled fondly.
She was going to kill Owen.
