QUESTION: Is anyone interested in a Dark is Rising Sequence read/re-read and commentfest?

So in a move which she will probably regret forever, terrorcandy once loaned me her copies of The Dark is Rising Sequence when we were both about eleven. These were YA High Fantasy classics, packed with coming of age and world-saving. The author, Susan Cooper, had ( Read more... )

If I can find ebook copies or from the local library, I'm in. :D I don't think I ever read more than one book in the series.

OMG JILL YAYYYYYY ONE OF US ONE OF US *bouncyhugs*

Amanda says she'll do it too! And I'm thinking of making it one chapter a week, just so y'all in grad school (and me in my job) don't get overwhelmed, like.

I make time for reading fun books every night, so that's no big deal for me. :D (A great thing I worked into my schedule last year.)

Also, checked my giant stash of ebooks on my computer, and I do have them, so we are good! :D

This is a sensible plan. There's no way all the grad school work ever will get done in one night, so I am glad you take time to read :) (and boo if there's ever anyone who makes you feel guilty for it)

Ooh! I somehow missed them when I was a kid (had definitely heard of them but for some reason a copy never made it into my hands) and only discovered them in grad school, where I wrote up the title book as part of my coursework. I've been savoring them since then and have not got to the last one yet, and it's been at least a year since I read The Grey King, so yeah, I'd go for it, though I am kinda low on time these days so I'm not sure how that would work. But in theory, at least (and in spirit if not in body!), I'm in!

Would you like pimpage, btw, or are you hoping just to keep this to folks you know? No worries either way, just happy to mention it in my journal if you'd like. :)

Well, you're welcome to tag along with us for sure! And your children's lit expertise will probably be a great thing to add. Since most people I know are on the busy side, I was thinking we could do a chapter a week, anyway. I'd do big write-ups with my thoughts, but other folks would be welcome to comment if they saw fit. The idea would be to keep it low-maintenance rather than a painful obligation for people.

I am okay with pimpage! What would be best for you? I could unlock this entry so it's public, or you're welcome to copy-paste it into your own journal and tell people to PM me. I'm okay unlocking though.

Unlocking is easiest for me, since I am short on spare time (read: I just realized I have exactly ZERO plan for my class tomorrow night. Eeek! And that's just one example!). Merci beaucoup!

Entry is unlocked, and thanks for getting the word out! Good luck with your class plans. Seems like you've been having an... interesting... time this year! Let's put it that way.
