I agree with your Who opinions. Some of the Doctor being all god-like was just... poorly done. I think RTD just wanted it far too overacted, which might have been okay if the next episode was sooner than Christmas. And when looking back on it, the episode could really have used a ton of editing...there was just a whole bunch of the Doctor standing around. And yeah, I always assumed the whole laws of time were sort of Dead Like Me laws. And not that the Time Lords were there to keep certain things in order or whatever (rather that they were there to fix or prevent BAD stuff from happening when stuff is sort of altered)-
Agreed on the overacted and the editing. Unfortunately, it's what I've come to expect from RTD, so I wasn't too surprised this happened. Still, it'll be nice to see a change.
Yeah, the Time Lords actually had a strict policy of not interfering with anything, in the old series--generally they walked around in ridiculous hats and had political intrigue, which bored the Doctor so much he rebelled and left. They also weren't too happy about the Doctor running around and interfering with things.
I guess one of my issues was, I feel like the Doctor's always more or less interfered with the laws of time, they just made him... hubristic about it in this episode, instead of cheeky, which strikes me as totally nuts. I do, at least, think he's meant to come across not as a hero at the end, so it didn't bother me as much this time.
That dress sounds so pretty! And for just $20? That is some amazing shopping luck right there.
I really liked "Waters of Mars," though I suppose I have to take that with a grain of salt since I haven't seen Series 4 yet and don't know how well it meshes with how Ten's progressed. I do think there could've been a bit less yelling when he snapped; it lost impact when it just kept happening. I'm a sucker for characters who try to act normal despite their crazy, so I found it most effective when Ten was all "I helped you! Everything is a-okay! ^__^" in his last conversation with Adelaide.
The casual mention of Yuri's brother and husband made me happy, but the makeup of the crew in general made me go LOL. I mean... an international space mission where Brits outnumber Russians and nobody's from a non-Western country? Really? This isn't Star Trek, guys. The gender balance was welcome, though, and Adelaide was kickass.
Also, I always assume Homeric rules of Fate and Ocarina of Time rules of time apply to everything unless it's

Yeah, Ten was deeeeeefinitely yelling too much. I think that's one of Tennant's weaknesses as an actor, or at least one of his weaknesses under RTD's directing him. RTD tends to go for "bigger is better" in his specials and finales, but I think sometimes he forgets that some of the best moments in Who are the subdued ones. (Like this one from Tomb of the Cybermen, in the sixties. One of my favorite scenes ever, honestly.)
Welllll, as far as the international space mission thing goes, I assumed it wasn't so much "international" as "put together from a few countries while other countries have their own space programs"? Which would explain the lines about the Phillipines, etc. We know that in the Who "future" Britain steps up in power again, so that could be part of it.
I assume multiple timelines for everything in the Whoniverse. Makes it easier to DisContinuity when I need to. ^_^
That dress does sound very good! I know what you mean about the cool clothes, though. I do have some good stuff but I just can't see myself wearing anything but jeans and shirts for day to day.
I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who got to WoM a week late. I posted the most brief reaction post EVER last night, but there's a lot more in the comments. One of my friends has basically decided that Ten is His Very Own Greek Tragedy (TM) and is destined for a mighty fall in the next episode. I'd like to have that much faith in Rusty, but I don't, so I am hedging my bets

Yeah, I tend to be late to the party on these things if they tend to happen during the school year, so I didn't get to watch it until this weekend...
What is it with Russel T. Davies and the last 10-15 minutes of episodes? It happened with the end of S4, it happened with the Christmas episode, it just... the guy does not know how to do endings. About the only thing that comforted me about Ten pulling his arrogant "fuckitall!" speech was the fact that at the end, he didn't meet with cheering, clapping crowds and rising music to show how much of a hero he was. Instead, he was met with insanity and Adelaide shooting herself in the head. It did happen too quickly, but at least it wasn't approval. Adelaide was the true tragic hero of the episode, I think. I can't tell if that's what RTD intended, though

Rusty has one of the worst track records on endings that I've ever seen in my life. Have you seen his Casanova? The last half hour is so wildly out there it's a wonder he managed to get it put on film. (How DOES this man continue to win awards??) This time, though, I'm not quite sure it's as bad as we want to think. For one, he had a co-writer, who may be why the episode was as good as it was. For another, if you follow the Greek Tragedy theory (which I think rests pretty solely on the idea of out-of-control hubris), it does start with Ten's first moments, knocking down Harriet Jones, etc. And you can build an argument that it just continues to intensify, if you're willing to ignore all the episodes where it doesn't (which, for me, includes pretty much ALL of S4) and say that this is the logical conclusion, which not only accounts for the "OMG I'M TOTALLY INSANE" bits but also the "Isn't anyone going to thank me?" at the very end, which I almost think is even more obnoxious. So I do see where they're coming from, even if I think the
