Yeah, the classic "Just ignore them and they'll go away" is about the worst advice I ever got.

I think martial arts classes would be the best response.

Bill Cosby wrote a children's book where the kid just said, "so?" to each insult. That would work well with teasers. Physical bullies would probably just say "so--this!" and beat the crap out of the kid.
