Why is there a procession of schoolchildren walking north on Hoyne Avenue and cheering? Not that I have anything against the small fry getting fresh air and exercise, but when they're led by nuns and followed by police cars, I have to wonder what is up.

It may or may not be connected, but the Catholic schools here are doing a Walk for Virtues. (shudder)

Ohhh. That would explain it. Being a Jew, I know little of such things.

Still: why the police escort? It's broad daylight.

To remind the children that if they're not virtuous they'll go to jail? (Then Hell)

I was thinking it had more to do with this bein' an Irish Cat'lick town. Da Cops maybe wanna double dip by doing the march AND gettin' paid for it.

That reminds me of when I went to Disneyland last week. One of the people in my group had a mohawk and wanted to get his picture with some nuns as they passed by. (He decided not to at the last minute, though.)
