Couple o'few remarks about the whole LJ auto-crosspollenation with other social media feature:

1. Do. Not. Want. (Not that anyone asked my opinion, but when has that ever stopped me from expressing it?)

2. Judging by the more-tumbleweeds-than-usual atmosphere around here, a lot of you don't want the feature either.

3. From this point forward, I ( Read more... )

I think the linking comments from posts to FB or Twitter is like ...."REALLY?? is the point that your comment is so amazing you have to tell EVERYONE in multiple forms??" hahahahahaha! It's so silly! :D
Yeah, I think everyone on LJ is on here cause they like the locked down groups they interact with that generally are not their co-workers, families, or friends of family...

I think it's awesome that I don't even really know what this means! :)

I've got no interest in cross-posting to Facebook or Twitter. They're very different planets in the social system. LJ is so much less public and I can say things I can't really say anywhere else.

My wife told me about how a friend of hers posts stuff on Twitter, which is automatically set to post to LJ...and once it's on LJ? It automatically posts to Twitter...again.

Maybe "automatic" is wrong. Maybe she has to manually do it. Either way, it's insane.

I have both FB and Twitter accounts. Both are locked down as much as possible. And I will never use the FB/Twitter features here. Only a select few friends know of this account...don't need others learning of it, especially when I bitch about my in-laws from time to time.

I considered quitting Facebook because of the ridiculousness of it all...but there are several family members and friends who I speak to through it. One of those friends is someone I knew when I was little, who literally moved overnight. I thought I'd never speak to him again...lo and behold, he's on Facebook. Amazing I found him...he was in foster care after his dad stopped paying rent on their house (the reason he moved overnight), moved all of the US, got married and then divorced, and eventually moved back to PA. He now lives up the road from my in-laws.

So, unfortunately, Facebook is currently a necessary evil. I just make sure I am picky about who I accept friend requests from and lock down as much as possible.
