Hi all!

I have a question about burial practices. I've heard that back in the day people were buried with bells in case they woke up and needed to get dug out. I just want to know what time period that would have occurred in, where it was prevalent and anything else someone might know about that might be of interest. Thanks in advance.

I've googled decomposition, buried alive, and gotten the gist of what happens to a body after death. However, most of the websites I've read make reference to insects, soil, sun, and so forth. I need to know how a body will decompose without exposure to such things.
