Navajo women don’t wear feathers in their hair traditionally. My sister’s best friend in high school was Navajo and when she dressed up in the traditional style no feathers were involved. If you google “traditional Navajo hair women” you’ll see it was tied up but feathers aren’t really a thing.

Ah yes, the

Damn, you're right. Well now I have a problem. My character is half Navajo, half black. I don't even know if her hair could be done that way, and she doesn't do it that way anyway. I guess I'll just have to give her, like, earrings or a necklace or something for her Native pride. Though I see lots of non natives wearing those too... damn.

They actually sell hoodies and sweatshirts and stuff that say “Native Pride”, if she wants to show that off. It doesn’t have to be traditional jewelry or anything, especially since if she wants to make a point that might be too subtle. Granted, most iconography on that kind of clothing features Plains Tribes who typically have the fancy feathered traditional costumes that most people associate with Native Americans ( ... )

Hoodies aren't really her style. (She's a goth.) And she's in a school with a uniform. But pins that say that could work. Thanks!

Oh BTW, I checked on Google, and there are Navajo specific Native Pride things for sale out there.

What they said. Navajo women don't do that.

Perhaps you should just research traditional Navajo things - clothing, etc. - and get a better feel for this tribe.

Yeah I've been doing research for a couple years now. The problem is that my character is half Navajo and half black. Likely not a part of the tribe, but her family don't even live anywhere near a res anyway, so that's kinda moot.

Thanks for asking the question! Many people mix traditions and culture from different First Nations without realizing it.
