People do not act the same. They are individuals. Individuals react to trauma the same way they do everything else, by processing through the filter of their core personality traits and how they were taught to deal with hardship and loss. Some people will pack the experience away and never think of it again. Some people will try, but their subconscious will process the trauma through nightmares and so on.

Some people may become fearful and clingy. Others will double down on becoming self reliant.

So how your characters react rather depend on where you want your story to go. Do they become 'two against the world' or do they become 'grudging allies'?

That is up to you.

I agree a lot with the previous comment --- it's really up to you how you want the characters to react, or where you want the story to go, since I can see it being believable either way. Or you could consider what it'd be like if they reacted somewhere in between those extremes (i.e., Maybe one wants one thing, to become closer, and the other wants nothing to do with the other anymore?). You can decide how you want the bond to go.
