Police officer from Los Angeles working in Pasadena?

As part of a long fanfic series I've written over several years I want an LAPD officer to visit the home of someone who I've previously said lives in Pasedena. This isn't a search or anything, I just need her to visit the house and notice something ( Read more... )

Out of curiosity, what is the fandom? That might help. :) And full disclosure, I officer suggestions not as someone with any experience particular to law enforcement in Los Angeles, just lifelong experience of living in L.A ( ... )

I could see a cooperative relationship between members of task forces - such as Narcotics TF, Gang TF, Auto Theft TF, etc - they operate in a more regional capacity.

In my 27 years with a Sheriff's Office, I have frequently had deputies go into neighboring jurisdictions to follow up on leads, as well as have police officers in our jurisdiction doing follow-up. As a courtesy, we notify the other agency that we are in their area and whether or not we need their assistance. Now, I am in Northern California where we are very cognizant of jurisdictional boundaries and it may be different in LA. Knowing many people at and having taught at LAPD, I do think an officer would pursue leads in neighboring jurisdictions - whether they notified anyone is another question. Pasadena, on the other hand, might not like it if they found the officer in their jurisdiction ( ... )

OK - thanks, that's really helpful. Maybe I ought to look at a way for them to meet socially instead, I think it would be a lot less problematic.

The fandoms? Not that it really helps, but it's an extremely AU version of the DC universe crossing the 1984 Supergirl movie, Superman Returns, and Batman Begins (plus about ten other fandoms), to which I want to add a REALLY obscure character from Diane Duane's Young Wizards series. For various reasons I have Supergirl living in Pasadena and doing post-graduate work at UCLA, the Young Wizards character is an LAPD officer.

The courts are under the jurisdiction of the sheriffs dept. Except for federal court, whose security is done by the US Marshall's office.

So from that standpoint, your scenario doesn't work.

Yes, I think I'd better abandon that idea and go with something else. I think they'll meet in the desert instead.
