Here's your basic info. It seems a bit tougher than Pennsylvania, but I'll tell you what it was like visiting a friend in SCI Benner Township (PA State Prison) last year ( ... )

If he needed to use the bathroom while he was there, he would have to go out through the door, strip again, get searched again, use the bathroom, get re-searched, re-dressed then come back. For us, there were bathrooms at the side of the big room that needed to be unlocked.

Now. The play areas. That was for the inmates to play with and connect with their children when the kids came to visit. And the sight I will take away with me and smile at forever was this inmate coming in, heading to present his ID at the desk, and a voice going "DADDY DADDY DADDY" as a roughly 4-year-old kid THREW themselves at their father in the most joyous and glorious way possible. You cannot tell me that those visits were not the highlight of both kid's and dad's week.

Not sure what it's like in a Michigan one, but hopefully not too different.

Here's some info by a bunch of people helping first-timer visitors, and this is a forum (with a lot of repeated questions).

Good luck!

I went and visited a friend in prison in WI. There you have to first fill out paperwork. Once you are OKed to be on the visitors !ist. Once you are at the prison, you have to show youre ID and then you are given a tonken to lock your purse, wallet ect in. Then you go through the metal dector, my bra also set off the metal dector. I had to take it off and they made put it in plastic bag and I was able to carry it to thevisitors room(I went into bathroom and put it back on). They stamp your hand with that you see with a blacklight. You have to show it to get back out.

You get two hours with the prisoner. You can kiss and hug at the begining and end. Holding hands was fine. If you went outside in the smoking, the prisoner went through a strjp search at the end.

You could take in 25 pictures, ten dollars in quarters, but these had to be baggies. The prisoners couldn't touch the money. You could drop money for the prisoner in an envelope out in the area where you came in at.
