You've gotten some great advice so far. The only other thing I'd add is not to underestimate the amount of pain and injury blunt force trauma can inflict. Contusions/bruises, especially internal bruising/deep muscle bruises, hurts like a b. And it's not life-threatening, even though it can hurt enough it might make your character wonder if she IS, in fact, dying.
