Putting a Mercedez Benz engine into the Metallicar.....

Okay, so - we have a '67 Chevy Impala with (according to Mr. Ackles) a 427 CID V8 engine, rated at 385 horsepower. (Apparently the stunt Impala has a 427, so we'll just go with that as 'the' Metallicar engine ( Read more... )

No. You cannot convert a gasoline to run on bio-fuel. However . . .

Yes, you can put a diesel engine into the engine compartment. You will have to put in new hoses, new electrical to run the injectors, new fuel tank, different pumps, plus have an adaptor plate made so the engine can fit with the transmission.

Easy? No. Doable? Ya, sure, you betcha.

To be clear - a MB engine would fit into a Chevy Impala chassis? It wouldn't be too tall or too wide or too heavy, or, on the other hand, too light to actually move the chassis with any power at all?

The other stuff isn't a problem, as the person doing the retrofit would know about it, but - all for naught if the hood won't close!

These guys stuffed a 6.6L Duramax V8 under the hood of a '65 Impala and made it work. I am not a mechanic at ALL, but since the M-B engine used on the W116 chassis (the one the 280SE was built off of) was a 3.0L I-5, I'm going to guess that it will go under there and the hood would be able to close.

That would enable the car to run off biodiesel. If you want it to run off WVO, then that's a whole different set of conversions you'd have to do along with replacing the engine.

Coool. Very cool. Thank you! biodiesel makes the most sense for what I'm imagining, as it would be the easiest fuel to make/acquire.

Oh, awesome, thank you.

Yeah, i never figured you could convert the gas engine over, but a MB diesel engine seems to be 'the' biofuel engine, and i figured even in an older model, it'll be a good, well-running engine.

In what way will it perform differently? I imagine you can't get the same 'zero-to-sixty' burst of power with biofuel (or maybe you can?). Any details would be awesome.
