Inside ancient non-Western cities

This question is party preemptive, as this is an item that is highly likely to arise many times over the course of this book. Recently I have been banging my head against Google trying to find a map of Qufu (Lu state, future China) in the 6th century BCE. What I need is the inside of the city: its layout, internal roads, etc., and what I am ( Read more... )

Google Qufu archaeological site map, and you get EbescoHOST results for a number of articles about what I believe is your site; some look from the abstract like they include maps of the excavations there.

I know you said you don't read the languages in question, but if you can wade through a Chinese page or two, here's the Baike article on Qufu's old city (with a map about halfway down), and here's some Baidu cache images of Qufu maps, including a couple more like what I think you're looking for.

I've found good-quality maps in English are a bit of a laugh to expect to find over here - if you go to a place you might have better resources, but searching on the internet in English amkes things a bit tough.

Will modern maps including historical sites do? I've come across a few of those...
