Setting: England, July/Early August of 1914, very beginning of World War I.

Winston Churchill dislocated his right shoulder as a young man when he fell disembarking from a small boat. Although it was painful at the time, he was able to walk away unaided and didn't think much of it beyond 'making a few remarks mostly beginning with the earlier letters of the alphabet ( ... )

Doing the research for this has been so depressing, just because stories like that are so terrible. Sorry you had to see that, but thank you for giving me the info. It was very helpful!

I broken leg would inevitably end up with the horse being put down in the British Army at that time. The horses were not valuable enough to spend time and resources on. That early on in the war there were always plenty more where that one came from.

Unless a horse is useful for breeding or an especially loved pet it would most likely be put down as a reult of a broken leg, even today.
