I was in a car accident about two years ago, had a cranio-cerebral injury with multipe braincontusions, axonal damage and midbrain contusion, Glasgow-Coma-Scale 9. Retrograde amnesia: the two previous days. Other injuries: breaks in the orbit, broken sternum and separated shoulder.

edit: yes, this involved a lengthly hospital stay

A famous case of retrograde amnesia was the Central Park Jogger, who lost all memory of the hour before the attack that almost killed her and left her with a severely fractured skull. This kind of traumatic amnesia would involve losing minutes, hours, up to days, not years. Probably your best bet is dissociative fugue, which usually involves psychological stress or trauma but can be triggered by physical trauma or drugs.

To forget a large chunk she'd almost certainly need moderate to severe brain trauma. It would be reasonable to expect a person with such trauma to lose the whole year before the accident, but it is also then likely that the person will need to stay in hospital and rehab for at least a month and will probably have other, ongoing complications ranging from very mild to severe. If you're interested in the specifics of likely side effects or ongoing problems, feel free to PM me. =)

If you need your charater to completely forget more than a year or not have any hospital stay, your best bet is dissociative fugue, as cmar_wingnut suggested. Of course then you'll have the conundrum of a character in prolonged fugue state, unless you only need the amnesia to last a short time or part time.

Accidents are always being serious matters when it comes one's life and health. Normally after accidents people get injured and might their any organ damaged. Sometimes more serious accidents occurs and for which the head or brain seriously affected. Which results in a serious impact on nervous system of the body. As a result the memory might be loss in this case or the might be loss his/her life.
The above topic is about a girl suffering from Amnesia after the accidents happened to her. Really its very dangerous when it happens.

Accident is one of the serious thing of concern and due to accident one might lost his/her life. Some accidents occurs so badly that the chances of getting the injuries out of the it is quite difficult. Some might lost some parts of their body or damages any organ of the body. But it is very serious if someone lost his/her memory due to the accident. Same thing happened here.
