Police forces in Edo during the Tokugawa era

Greetings! It's nice to meet you all. This site is amazing and has given me already a lot of information that'll help me on my personal project about an AU in the time/place mentioned in the header.

What I still need is specific information on how the police worked in Edo during the Tokugawa era. Most books I found about this time in Edo only ( Read more... )

Thank you and yes, I bought some of these books. o: Unfortunately, Cunningham doesn't focus in depth about the different police ranks and even less about their daily life. And I can't find the rest of the books on sites like my local amazon where I could buy them.

Which (other) books would you recommend for the theme I'm writing about? Do you know other sources for information about the police in Edo?

Sorry, but I really don't have much. It wouldn't surprise me to find that some roles-like okappiki and komono- changed over time, especially at the beginning, As for the life, you might go more general; books about the Floating World, for instance, do tend to dwell on the police and their role.
and you might look at this series; I'm not sure what her sources are, but she's obviously looked at the same problem.
