Yeah, unfortunately I do need him to move and speak - but you're right, that is a fascinating option! I'll definitely have to keep succinylcholine in mind for other possible plots. I'll check out ketamine as well; it may be a bit too powerful for the captors' purposes, but that depends on the specifics. Thank you!

Sounds like you want something in the benzo family. Valium, ativan, something like that. They come in various preparations, pills, liquids, IV. A common side effect is respiratory depression which can lead to respiratory arrest and also pneumonias from breathing shallowly and not moving around or coughing for prolonged periods of time. The damp air doesn't really enter into it except if it is damp and moldy, I suppose that could imply fungal spores ( ... )

The benzo class does sound on target. I need to disregard the dampness, by and large (it's a basically clean environment); except for not preventing any mucus-buildup issues he has, it's really not a factor.

I noticed in the EMedicine page that flumazenil as a treatment for benzo overdose is "controversial", so I'll just skip that, I think, and have them support his breathing until he comes out the other side. Timing that will be a bit tricky - I don't want him to come out of it too quickly for the threat to his life to seem real, but I don't really want to keep in him in the hospital for more than a day (or two at the most) overall if I can help it. (Thanks to insurance, he's going to avoid leaving AMA, but he's also going to agitate to be discharged as soon as he's able.) I'll have to play with it.

This is great information. Thank you!
