Everyone was so helpful with my last question! Thank you guys so much. I am need of a little more help now, though. In my story, Ron is living in Florence and working at a gelato shop. One of his costumers (a young Italian man) asks him to go to a disco with him. He talks to Ron in Italian, but I'm only including certain phrases said in Italian ( Read more... )

This. I'm not a native speaker either, but I think if you're talking about somebody's arse, you'd use 'sedere' (m), not 'culo'. Also, 'il mio inglese', not 'mi'.

As for gay, as in 'I'm gay', I'm not sure, but I think the English word 'gay' is used colloquially. Hopefully a native speaker will show up and help you confirm this.

If you are a man and in Italy you'd use "culo", I guess. "Sedere" is a bit too prudie... We are so primeval. ;)

As the others said, 'i gay' is a common collective term for gay men (and possibly women, but you see very little mention of queer women). It's used by some gay rights' groups. I don't know, however, if a man would say 'sono gay' (I'm gay).

(not a native speaker, but I did my degree in Italian and lived in Rome for a year).
