Hetrosexual male relationships?

Setting:  Half in Ireland, half in New York, 1994

I was wondering if any straight males could help me on this one.  My straight guy-friends don't happen to have a lot of straight guy-friends, and I'm trying to portray a realistic friendship, really close friendship, between males.  It's not sexual, but it's definitely love, so I have a feeling there ( Read more... )

In what part of the world is this set? 'Cause there are different kinds of customs for different nationalities.

^ Yes, the above question was what I was about to ask. What country, and also what time period, you are writing in will completely alter the answers. Are we talking really close friendship like Holmes/Watson, or like House/Wilson? For example.

Thank you!!

I edited the post to say that one of the characters is from Ireland, the other from New York City, and this is in modern times, the 90's. Boondock Saints, given the setting, could be particularly relevant.

Definitely some good starting points to go on.

Agreeing with the already asked where/when is this set. If the answer is modern day America/western world my boyfriend and his best friend may be a good example of what you're looking for, but they wouldn't really work if you're talking Victorian England or something.

Yes, I can't believe I left out the setting -- it IS modern-day Western world though (the 90's, one is Irish and one's from New York City) so if you'd like to elaborate on this dynamic, I'm listening!

They're actually pretty much the same as what kittybacklash described below with her boyfriend. Lots of jokes, both from them and other, about them being gay together, and a lot of buttsex jokes and ones about my having to share him. All the jokes are very good natured, with an 'it's ok to be gay' view, though, and I don't know if people would have had quite that open an attitude about homosexuality in the mid 90s. When I first met them I honestly wondered if they were dating, and I'm not the only person to have thought that it turns out ( ... )

Well, I have a couple friends who fall into that category for me. I'm Californian and one is also Californian, and the other is from Tennessee. So, this is an American-perspective answer ( ... )
