I suggest making a list of the border cities in the region and then searching on them for Catholic schools: El Paso, Juarez, Del Rio, Acuña, Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, Brownsville, Matamoros, and of course San Antonio and Chihuahua. An older Catholic school or university would have its history on its website, if it has one, and that will tell you if it existed in 1900 and in what form.

Seconded -- anyplace with a San in front of it is going to be helpful, since those city names usually came from Spanish missions. You might also want to look up current churches, especially in the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, or Brownsville areas; many of them once had schools and now do not, since convent educations are less common ( ... )

Also: at the turn of the century, a lot of schools were being really progressive and modern and teaching the use of typewriters, so maybe that too.

thanks for all that! it sounds like it would be reasonable to say that she would have had some opportunity to see and spend time in a city.
