Los Angeles County public transportation, address searches

All right guys, I've done the relevant Wikipedia research for the first question (I looked up articles about public transport in LA County and information about the Metro specifically because it seemed the most likely), but it's fairly subjective.  For the second I've done some Google fu, search strings being various permuations of +address +search ( Read more... )

The Metro is accessible and easy to use, but it only connects certain neighborhoods; you can get from Hollywood to downtown, for instance, but not to the West Side (except for the airport.) If you re-post with the neighborhoods in question, we could get more specific.

Some places are very hard to get from one to the other with any form of public trnasport, some are easy; it varies a great deal.

I was curious about general accessibility. I don't have a good enough grasp on the geography yet.

Unless you're in the more central areas, LA's public transportation sucks. In a lot of the outlying areas, the busses run once an hour at peak times, and don't run at all at night or during the weekends.

Another thing to consider is that some of the cities have their own systems. Santa Monica's is a lot better than LA's; I rode the Big Blue Bus to and from school every day for four years. It ran every twenty minutes and took me to right outside my mom's home, as well as pretty much anywhere else my fifteen-year-old self wanted to go.

If your character is out in the San Fernando Valley, though, they're probably hating it. Because the only thing worse than waiting an hour for your bus is waiting in either the broiling heat or the bitter cold.
