Myspace scene kids and groups like Gloomy Train

I am rather new to Myspace and interested in possibly writing about some of the subculture around its use by teens but I am not very familar with the phenomenon of scene kids who belong to these groups which seem to have no purpose aside making certain they are added as friends by as many people as possible. That all such kids seem to follow the ( Read more... )

How the hell did "bomb" come to mean "good"?

I don't think this is the reason, but traditionally in British English saying that a party etc "went down a bomb" meant it was very well received. The American meaning of "bombed", in a negative sense, is a relatively recent importation into British English (I remember finding it odd 20 years ago), but is now pervasive.

1. Well, most of the friends I have a pretty real. I don't have too many "scenesters" on my friends list. In fact, most of the people on my friends list are people that I work with at the local library.

2. Because of the whole emocore thing, kids like to throw that in to show how "hardcore" they are. IF you have to convice us you're hardcore, chances are you're really not.

3. Cuz it looks cool.

4. Groups can be anything. Cat lovers, Bush haters, writers, smokers, music fans, comedy fans, fans of fans, etc.

I don't know any scene kids, but I am very experienced in mocking their profiles. From what I can glean from my observations ( ... )

Thank you, thank you all. Seriously, this helps.

I kinda dress "scene" myself but when I meet the majority of ppl who dress like I do (hey, I just like the fashion really) they are . . . sad. No better word than that, really . . . except for maybe "batty".

1) I swear the people I've seen from myspace do not look or act as cool in real life. lol. Perhaps its an exaggeration, or a portrayal of themselves as they wish to be seen but otherwise could not act IRL for some possible reason. But yes, mostly for attention and an exaggeration. Well, that's what I believe anyway.
2) I do believe that "murder" came from the AFI song Miss Murder...? That was pretty popular with the emo and scene kids or whatever. Then the whole stereotypical fascination with that kind of stuff comes into play...

& I do believe I have nothing else to add to your third and fourth question as everyone has pretty much covered them.
