Opera?

I know nothing about opera except for that there's a chance that your opera house contains and opera ghost and then you just have all sorts of problems. I also don't have the slightest idea how to search this, as I also know nothing about languages in which operas are usually sung so it's not really like I can check for lyrics ( Read more... )

A much better, non-stupid modern opera called Flight is this one by Martyn Harry: http://bmic.co.uk/collection/searchdetails.asp?id=32888

Doesn't fit the bill because it isn't old or well-known, but maybe the Icarus theme might lead you to something else? Your description in the comments of the ideal exchance sounds very Icarus-ish (IIRR, that bit in Harry's opera is mostly done by the narrator, not in dialogue, fwiw.) OTOH I can't currently think of an older well-known opera on that theme which is not a good sign. Flight doesn't seem very likely as an operatic theme before the last century, overall!
