Speaking as a Brit I think it's absolutely hilarious, but I guess everyone has different tastes etc.
The Vicky Pollard character does come close to what we call chavs over here, maybe some similar characters have been met by some Brits and it's too close for comfort for them, after all it takes all sorts to make a world.
Anyway I see it for what it is humour and nothing deeper. :¬)
I can show you two, I am an ex Brit living in the US, and He's here 20 months this week. We love the show and appreciate good satire, and though some are just for comedy effect, there is some base of truth in many (Vicki Pollard = a common Bristolian stereotype, etc). How boring to watch a bunch of staid Brits doing nothing funny, I hope to never be that uptight.
