This is the companion piece and sort of sequel to The Perfect Idea :)
“Why am I the only one frazzled about all this?”
Yunho looked up from the slice of strawberry shortcake he’d been eating and stared at his fiancé, who was pacing around the kitchen. Jaejoong stopped in front of the stove and turned away from it to point his wooden spoon threateningly at Yunho.
“Do you know what I dealt with today while you were at work? My two least favorite aunts kept calling me about some stupid tradition that they probably just made up to spite me for getting married before their monstrous daughters. After that, the florist called and asked me if I wanted some stupid flower that I’d never even heard of even though I told her no from the moment she called. Do you know what happened after that? One of my sisters called and insisted that I help her bake for some bake sale, forcing me to cut my meeting with my parents short.”
Before Yunho could utter a word, Jaejoong let out a loud sigh and narrowed his eyes at his soon to be husband.
“With all the effort that I’m putting into this wedding, you better not be late!” he grumbled as he grabbed the carrots he’d chopped earlier. “You were even late for my birthday this year, what happens if -“
“I’m not going to be late.” Yunho murmured softly in amusement as he continued to eat his slice of cake. “I’ll be there on time -“
Jaejoong stepped away from his soup and walked over to Yunho. He placed his hands on the counter and then snatched away the plate. Yunho looked up at him, and Jaejoong scowled.
“What if you get too fat to fit into your suit?”
“Then I’ll go nude,” Yunho said with a laugh. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” He took the plate out of Jaejoong’s hand and set it back down onto the counter. Jaejoong scoffed and walked away, but Yunho continued to speak. “Or wait, I think your youngest sister would like that the most. I know she has a crush on me -“
Jaejoong whirled around, “Hey!”
“I can’t help it that I’m so irresistible and cute,” Yunho teased. “Actually, maybe we should delay the wedding. There’s this cute guy who works in our office who has a crush on me, and I don’t want to break his heart on his birth month -“
His fiancé scowled then turned around to stir his soup. “What the hell did my parents put in the wedding cake samples? Maybe they don’t approve of you as much as I thought they did…maybe they poisoned you and are trying to get us to break up.”
Yunho tapped his fork on his plate, “Or maybe, I’m hiding a secret personality and it’s only starting to resurface now -“
“What if we’re not meant to be together?” Jaejoong mused as he continued to stir his soup, “We’d be like in one of those movies where if two certain people get together, their union would somehow lead to the end of the world?”
“That sounds good…it is 2012 after all.” Yunho replied as he smiled fondly at Jaejoong and waited for him to turn around. “So, should we break up? The wedding’s still far away, so there’ll be enough time for refunds.”
Jaejoong turned around and pointed his spoon at Yunho once again, “Jung Yunho, don’t you dare bring up the topic of breaking up with me here of all places, the place where you proposed to me. If you do it again, I’ll be cooking and turning you into soup next.”
Deciding to continue playing difficult, Yunho simply widened his grin. “I bet I’d make the best kind of soup.”
“You’re an idiot. Why did I say yes to you again?” Jaejoong muttered before he turned around and face his pot once again. “Honestly, I think I’d probably have a happier married life with this pot over here.”
Yunho chuckled and got up from his seat. He walked over to Jaejoong and encircled his arms around the other’s waist before he leaned forward and rested his head upon the other’s shoulder. He breathed in deeply then nuzzled Jaejoong and kissed his cheek.
“I called the caterer today.”
“Why am I not surprised?” Jaejoong muttered after he’d huffed childishly, “The only things that you’re interested in when it comes to the wedding are matters regarding food.”
Yunho laughed, “If it makes you feel any better, I also called the printing shop and finalized the designs for the wedding invitations. That doesn’t have anything to do with food now does it?” He squeezed Jaejoong a little tighter and pulled him closer. “You know I want this wedding to be perfect just as much as you do.”
“I only plan on getting married once,” Jaejoong murmured as he finally relaxed against Yunho’s embrace. “I want it to be perfect, wonderful, and…better than of my sisters’ weddings.”
“You were always too competitive for your own good,” Yunho chuckled before he pressed a kiss behind Jaejoong’s ear. “But fine, I’ll tag along and help you with this little competition that you have going on.”
“Good.”
They stood in silence for a few seconds, content with the way they were, until Jaejoong turned his head slightly to look at Yunho for a few seconds before he sniffed him. Yunho was about to comment on the action, but before he could, Jaejoong had pressed a quick kiss to his lips, effectively silencing him.
When Jaejoong pulled away, he spoke. “You smell and taste like cake.”
“I have been eating most of the samples for the most of the evening…and your parents are pretty excited about the fact they’re baking a cake for their baby boy’s wedding you know. They sent practically a lifetime’s worth of cake for us to try out.” Yunho murmured, a small smile on his lips. “I’ll probably smell and taste this way until tomorrow morning at least.”
“Well, I don’t mind that,” Jaejoong replied happily before he turned back to watch over his soup. “I like cake…and you too I guess.”
“Shouldn’t I be the number one thing you like?”
Jaejoong shrugged, “Nope. Cake never talks back to me.”
Yunho laughed and hugged Jaejoong tighter. “Speaking of cake, which of the flavors did you like best?” he tilted his head to get a better look of his fiancé’s face, “I know your parents had you try out some kinds when you stopped by the bakery today.”
“Well, I think I liked the chocolate devil’s food cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberries the best.”
“Then we should get that one.”
Jaejoong scowled and turned his head to look at Yunho, “Are you just saying that because you’re trying to please me, or because you don’t care enough to make a decision on your own you lazy -“
Yunho shook his head and chuckled, “Well, it’s going to be our wedding cake so it’s important that we both like it, and you know I like sweet things, so it’s a pretty hard choice for me to make a choice since I liked pretty much everything. Besides, how could I be lazy? I tried out all the cake flavors -“
“That’s because you’re a pig. You eat anything and everything.” Jaejoong said teasingly, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. “You’ve been gaining so much weight lately I’m worried you’re going to crush me on our wedding night.”
“That hurts.” Yunho whined childishly, “You’re not supposed to bruise your future husband’s ego this way.”
Jaejoong turned off the stove and faced Yunho. He smiled, “So what am I supposed to do to make you feel better?”
Yunho leaned forward, his lips mere centimeters from Jaejoong’s. He smiled, and he watched as Jaejoong’s eyes fluttered shut instinctively as he got closer. He inched forward but stopped when his nose brushed against Jaejoong’s.
“Bake me a cake.”
Jaejoong’s eyes snapped open, and Yunho ran away before the younger man could hit him with his spoon.
