Summary: He was supposed to plan Yunho’s wedding, not fall in love with him.
Jaejoong felt like fainting. He stared at Yunho blankly, his mouth open and imitating a goldfish as he gaped at the other. Not a single word came to his mind as he tried to process everything that had just happened. Yunho stared at him, waiting for him to say something, but nothing still came to mind.
“What?” Jaejoong choked out finally. It wasn’t the best reply that could’ve come to mind, but it was the only word that came to his head. He shook his head and stepped back, trying to push all the shock away. “I…I don’t get it.”
Yunho sighed, “It’s a long story -“
“And I think I deserve an explanation now, don’t I?” Jaejoong questioned, his tone curt and impatient. While at first he hadn’t wanted to know anything, now his curiosity was nagging at him. After all, didn’t he deserve an explanation? He’d been dragged into this drama, and he’d never liked drama. He liked giving people happy, memorable weddings. All the angst and drama could happen after the weddings, during the marriage itself, when he was no longer around and could live in peace.
Unfortunately for him now, it seemed like all the drama he was being forced to deal with now would make up for all the drama he’d escaped in the previous weddings. “I want to know why I’ve been roped into…into this…okay, forgive me for saying this, but this whole situation is such a mess. I guess I’m a part of this mess now, so because of that, I would really appreciate an explanation.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be this complicated,” Yunho replied, an apologetic look on his face A look of tiredness washed over his handsome features, and a sigh escaped his lips. “She wasn’t…she wasn’t supposed to tell you anything, and I…I wasn’t supposed to…” His eyes lingered upon Jaejoong’s face, and the latter averted his eyes quickly, feeling fairly confident he knew what Yunho wanted to say.
It seemed as if the awkward tension in the air had intensified. Jaejoong cleared his throat and turned his eyes back to Yunho. “I still need an explanation.”
Yunho nodded, “I agree.” On habit, he ran his hand through his hair again. “Do you want to talk somewhere else? I -“
“No, let’s do this here.” The wedding planner said as he crossed his arms. He kept his look leveled on made sure to hold Yunho’s gaze. “I think we’ve done enough side stepping, and there’s been enough delays already. It’s time to settle things right here, right now.”
“We should sit at least then, don’t you think?” Yunho gestured to a nearby bench, and he looked at Jaejoong for approval.
Jaejoong nodded, and they moved over to where the bench was. While he sat down, Yunho decided to just keep standing even though he’d been the one to suggest it in the first place. Despite that, Jaejoong said nothing, wrung his hands together and waited for Yunho to continue.
Yunho paced slightly in front of Jaejoong. He opened his mouth to say something then closed it again. Once again, he opened it, and shut it. Jaejoong shot him a look of annoyance, and before he could comment on Yunho’s behavior, the other spoke first.
“The situation is just so…” Yunho sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Do you have any questions? I think things would just be easier for me if you asked me about what you wanted to know.”
Jaejoong thought for a few seconds and tried to outline what he wanted to know. But after another awkward moment had passed, he realized that the plan wasn’t working, so he threw those thoughts out the window and decided to ask the biggest question that was on his mind.
“When did you find out Ara was pregnant?”
Yunho took a deep breath. “I was actually the first one she told.” He noticed the shock on Jaejoong’s face and decided to keep speaking. “We’ve always been best friends, and she trusted me enough to share the news with me as soon as she found out.”
“…so why?” Jaejoong asked, his eyebrows knotting in confusion. “If you know that the baby isn’t yours, why are you two getting married? What happened to the baby’s real father? Where is he?”
“You met Mr. Go, didn’t you?” Yunho asked.
Jaejoong nodded in response, and so Yunho continued. “Ara was seeing someone, and her father didn’t approve. When they were dating, he could barely manage to stomach it. When he found out she was pregnant, that was the last straw for him. He threatened her to break it off and marry someone that he would set her up with, or get disowned.”
Another sigh escaped Yunho’s lips, and he looked at Jaejoong. “As you can see, I’m here today because she chose the first option. She was scared, and her father is a powerful man in society. She didn’t want him to do anything that could ruin her boyfriend.”
“What about you then?” Jaejoong asked. “Why are you…I mean, why were you acting as her fiancé? You proposed?”
“I couldn’t let her marry someone who would probably treat her terribly. I made a deal with her father that Ara and I would be married for two years in order for no one to talk badly about Ara or her family because of the unplanned pregnancy, and then afterwards we would simply get a divorce.”
Jaejoong stared up at Yunho. “You were okay with that?”
“She’s my best friend, I would do anything for her. It wasn’t like I was dating or interested anyone at the time, so I didn’t think that it would be so hard…” Yunho replied. His eyes lingered on Jaejoong, and the gaze was a little disconcerting so the latter looked away. Once again, silence filled up the void in the conversation. However, this silence did not last as long as the previous ones.
“What now then?” Jaejoong asked. He looked at Yunho expectantly. “Neither of you seems to want to continue with this wedding. It’s not like her father could force you two to get married now either. It won’t be that hard for me to cancel everything, there are still a few days until -“
“I don’t want you to cancel the wedding.”
Once again, another bomb was dropped upon him for the second time that day. Jaejoong stared at Yunho, his eyes wide. He recovered a little quicker this time and narrowed his eyes at the other man. “I don’t get you. I’m sorry, did you just say that you don’t want me to cancel this wedding even though both of you aren’t in love with each other and aren’t interested in getting married to one another?”
“You heard me right.”
“I’m sorry, but are you crazy?” Jaejoong questioned. He got up and shoved a finger at Yunho’s chest. “Do you know how difficult it is to prepare a wedding? It’s hard enough for me right now, imagine what it’s going to be like when all the people gather and start getting ready for everything! I know a wedding may seem cheap to you people, but my time is expensive and -“
Yunho took hold of Jaejoong’s hand gently. He kept a calm look on his face and placed his hand on the other man’s shoulder. “Look, let me explain?”
“I’m sick of hearing you explain things to me to be honest,” Jaejoong shot back, his irritation levels flaring to new heights. “Please, just spare me more confusion, and tell me everything now, maybe sometime before I die of high blood pressure.”
“There’s still going to be a wedding, okay?” Before Jaejoong could snap an annoyed reply, Yunho let go of Jaejoong’s hand and raised both his hands up as a sign for the other to be patient. “It just isn’t going to be between me and Ara.”
“And who then?” Jaejoong snapped. “Changmin and Yoochun? Please don’t tell me one of them is actually pregnant, because I will kill you -”
“What?”
The wedding planner scowled, “Ignore me, go on. I’m just annoyed.”
A slight grin appeared on Yunho’s face, “I have a plan. Just trust me?”
Jaejoong covered his face with his palm and sighed loudly. He shook his head, his gut telling him to just drop the wedding and run, far, far away - preferably to his apartment where he could sleep everything away and pretend like Jung Yunho and all the drama that came along with him didn’t exist. After a couple of seconds, Jaejoong gathered his wits and met Yunho’s gaze.
“Fine. I trust you.”
“Great.” Yunho smiled, “I appreciate it. You won’t regret your decision, I promise.”
“I hope so,” Jaejoong muttered. He let out another irritated sigh, averted his eyes to glare at a plant before he turned his eyes back to Yunho. “Now, because I refuse to be left in the dark anymore, I need to know. What’s your plan?”
“I’m going to get Ara and her boyfriend back together.”
Jaejoong paled.
He was regretting his decision to trust Yunho already.
