Obviously, the people who created his character in the first place are obsessive name-researchers. It is now time to look up the meanings of Darcy Lewis, too. :P

Darcy: dark, dark one; derived from a surname introduced into Britain during the Norman Conquest, based on the French place name Arcy.
Lewis: Descendant of Lewis (glory, battle); alternate spelling Louis, meaning famous warrior or famous fighter, from the Old German Chlodovech

My money is on the creators not even realizing what they'd done. It is the Son of Coul, and thus anything surrounds him is right creators be damned.
(Though how awesome would it be if one of the writers was totally planning this right from the beginning?)
