Wow. This feels so real. This is exactly the kind of mentalscape I'd imagine from Four at this point in the story. There's a harshness to him that even Tris didn't have, something I posit came from Marcus.

You, m'dear, are amazing. And so is this fic.

You totally caught what I was after! I think Marcus is responsible for the majority of how sharply Four is cut around the edges. Dauntless gave Four an outlet, and the faction's very nature allowed him to file those edges to even finer points.
