And we cling to the past to deny and confuse the ideal.

Dear Vancouver Canucks,

I'm proud of you guys. It sucks that you lost, but hey. You made it to the finals, it was an awesome ride, and it was generally kick ass. Way to go.

***

Dear Vancouver Canuck Asshole Fans,

I'm so fucking ashamed. Way to show everyone what a world class city we are.

***

Dear Rest Of The World,

I'm so sorry. I am so, so sorry.

Those aren't real fans. To quote someone on Twitter whose name I cannot remember, real fans wouldn't be burning the city they're rooting for. Those are losers looking for an excuse to be idiots on TV because their lives are too worthless otherwise.

I think that person on Twitter nailed it on the head.

There are two major things that disgust me though:
1) The people posing for pictures in front of the cops and riot squads.
2) The fact that there are people trapped in the QE after seeing "Wicked" because of what's happening outside it.

According to Dave, the 1994 riots have nothing on this. Frick. So much shame.

You and me both.

The more I watch of it on CBC, the more thoroughly disgusted I become, and the more I hope that the riot squads move in soon.

I'm just glad that the Boston buses got/are getting a police escort out.

1. Darling, I hope you and yours are alright despite the dregs and worst aspects of your beloved metropolitan area.

2. Folks that riot when you lose were going to riot if you won. It has nothing to do with hockey, it's just an excuse.

1. Me and mine are just fine. We watched/are watching it all from the safety of our home. I had a couple friends who were talking about going downtown; it's them I need to check in with.

2. You're absolutely right. Frick, the Sedins have released a statement saying how disappointed they are. This is just...argh.

It's horrible.

The watching parties on the street seem like a good idea, but the bad elements are going to be out no matter what. All it's doing is luring people who are just there to have a good time into a trap of sorts.

I hope you get word that everyone is okay soon.

Frick. I still feel like I should apologize.

The thing is, those watching parties worked so well right up until tonight.

Me too. I'm hoping it was just talk that they'd head down, and that they ended up staying away from the core.

My plan is now to turn off the damn news and go watch something funny.

*patpat* Don't worry, I know you feel like this is all people will think of when they think of Vancouver, but it's not. It'll be in the limelight for a little while but then it will fade out.

I can totally understand the frustration with such idiots though. :(

It'll fade away eventually, I know, it's just that we're better than that. I mean, the Olympics went over so well. We showed the world how awesome we could be. And then there's this. It just boggles the mind. We honestly do call ourselves a 'world class city', and a group of violent, angry dipwads is now our face for the next little while.

I think the best part of this all, however, is that the front page of today's newspaper features a picture of both goalies shaking hands with the headline 'Noble In Defeat'. The rioters got punted to the back of the front section. HAH.

Even better? The rioters tried to loot The Bay (a major store chain up here), but the staff inside reacted quickly and drove them out using fire extinguishers. They also took pictures of the perpetrators with camera phones. I seriously want to shake those employees hands.

Yeah. At least they didn't go crazy while the Olympics was going on? ^^;; Even the world class cities have their, er moments. Hell, even the non-world class ones too (when the power was out down here for so long there was a reason law enforcement inflicted a sunset curfew let's just say that)....of course I guess it's more expected of them. But I do imagine a lot of it was the fact that idiots are idiots, and you guys probably had a lot of visiting idiots who didn't think they would be held accountable for jack. (Call me if I'm wrong on it, but isn't rioting a theme with rabidly fanatic sports fans? o_O)

HA! Take that rioters! Sometimes it's really nice to know that some news media out there has some class. Wish our country's was as cool as that.

And that. Is. AWESOME. I don't know them, but I <3 them for that. Freakin' fabulous! XD Nice to know not everyone's brains go to mush around rioting idiots (I am scared to death of mobs personally x_x).

I guess we can hold tight to the fact that this isn't a recurring theme up here, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. Sports do tend to bring this out, but it's just weird to see it on our streets, y'know? You never really think it can happen HERE, wherever you are ( ... )

I would have preferred for the Canucks to win. Because if the Predators had to get knocked out, I wanted it to be by winners.

(and now you know where I live, LOL!)
