So. Christmas. I want to do something for my friends this year. Last year I think I offered gift fics, but I don't think I'm going to have the time/attention span to do that again this year. It was a simple gesture, really, and yet her spirits soared when Phoenix held her hand like this. Anna smiled as she met the elf's bright blue eyes.

"Do you trust me?" he asked, a playful, almost mischievous smile on his lips.

"Oui," she said instantly, not even having to think. Perhaps she should have, though, because Phoenix would not know what that word meant in her language.

In the end, it didn't matter, though - he must have understood - because he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close enough to whisper softly in her ear, "Then Anna... close your eyes."

Something was brushing against his nose. The texture was some sort of organic hair of filament - no, scratch that, it was far too stiff for that. He cracked an eye open and raised a brow, his expression flat as he spied the hovering feather.

"What do you think you are doing?"

Leviathan smirked. "Teaching my brother a lesson. When was the last time you played, Harpuia?"

The other eyebrow rose to join the first - then Harpuia smiled, slow, broad and devious as his wings flexed behind his back. "If you think to teach me a lesson in play..."

That was all the warning he gave.

"Captain Phoenix of the Phantom Blade."

Sharp steel pricked into the back of his neck, stealing all motion from him. He couldn't see the owner of the voice, but he recognized it - recognized her. His heart skipped a beat before he managed to regain control of himself. Carefully schooling his face into complete neutrality, he held up his hands, both empty.

"Karin," he said, as lightly as he could. "What a pleasant surprise-"

"All right, ghost boy," Valerie growled. "Tell me where Danny is right now." The gun in her hand only served to underscore the very audible threat in her voice.

Danny swallowed nervously as he eyed the weapon. He didn't recognize it. It must be new. New was not a good thing when it came to Valerie. "He, uh... had to go to the bathroom?" He cringed at how weak the lie was. There was no way that Valerie would buy it. Unfortunately, he didn't think there was anything he could say that she would actually believe.

"Yeah, right," Valerie scoffed - no surprise there. It also wasn't a surprise when she leveled the gun at him, though his eyes still widened.

With a panicked 'oh crap,' he immediately started to run.

Tess looked down at her newly furry hands - well, paws, she guessed she should say. It was so confusing to realize that those were hers. Her fingers were smaller, and now she had claws - but they were still just as nimble as ever. It just took a little longer to get the grease off after working on her newest inventions.

"Hey, babe," someone purred right beside her ear. An arm just as furry as hers circled around her waist and pulled her close. Tess squealed.

"Daxter!" In a way, this was confusing, too - but it wasn't bad. Not one bit.

Tess smiled as she turned to face the love of her life... who was just the right size for her.
