Being a bit of a Hamlet about choosing tattoo placement...

Aug 07, 2009 16:45

Hello!

Like a lot of new posters here, I recently found this comm and have spent the last couple of days reading back as far as I can. It's great to see so many people being supportive of other people's tattoos, ideas etc.

I have a pretty usual problem and would really appreciate some advice =)

Placement... )

advice, andrew marvell, placement

Also consider future droopage re: placement on or under chesticles. I love that placement too, but they seem to work best on more petite girls, not ones with tatas. Above the chest, on the ribcage ("necklace" placement) looks nice too and wouldn't droop much but I don't know how concerned you are about jobs.

I've just decided as I've gotten them, with no real clear plan. The quote seemed obvious for the upper arm to me, and my ankle tattoos, well, just seem to fit. The ideas suggest their own placement.

Also consider future droopage - Haha, I hadn't even thought of that, you raise a good point!

Thanks!

I can only speak for myself here, but if I'd had a tattoo curving underneath my breasts nine years ago it would be hidden by now (I've had two babies since then, and my breasts are nothing at all like what they once were). I've got one on my left arm, easily hidden by a short-sleeved shirt, and am getting a pretty big one on my back next week. I think I might go with an upper arm or the back if you'd like to be able to hide it.

Here I was vehemently avoiding getting anything done near my stomach for the baby reason, but I didn't even consider it for chest-placement. Thanks for the advice! Upper arm is definitely a possibility =)

I only have one tattoo right now (on my ankle) but am planning a second and have been sitting on an idea for an eventual third for quite a while. The second is a text tattoo and I'm intending to get it on my upper back, keeping in mind that if I ever get the third one it will go on my lower back. I think it can look okay, I think it just depends on the tattoos - like, if you had a huge skull and crossbones in the middle of your back and then a really flowery and dainty design lower on your back, that might clash a bit (or, hey, it could be a cool contrast). I'd definitely keep drawing on yourself too, or take a picture of your different body parts and put them on the computer so you can PhotoShop the potential tattoo onto your pictures and see how you like it. And then just let the ideas simmer for a while - for me (also occasionally an indecisive person), I want to be 100% certain and confident about everything surrounding a potential tattoo (size, design, exact placement) before going ahead with it.

or take a picture of your different body parts and put them on the computer so you can PhotoShop the potential tattoo onto your pictures and see how you like it - That's such a good idea, thank you! That hadn't even occurred to me.

I'm totally wih you on the being 100% certain, too. It'd be a shame to regret something you love enough to have inked on you forever.

Ooh, thank you, it's really good to hear from someone who wears a lot of dresses too. People are always saying, just wear socks, it'll be fine, but obviously socks would look pretty silly with most dresses, so it's good to know you don't struggle to hide them. Thanks, that really helps =)
