After hauling myself through four years of undergraduate education, I've decided to treat myself to my first tattoo as a graduation present. I've wanted one for years, and hummed and hawed over what I should get and where I should get it, but I've finally decided on a long loved line from Neruda's 20 Love Poems and a Song of Despair.
The line I'd like to get is part of the last line from the first poem, "Body of a Woman." It's absolutely beautiful, and I think everyone should have it in their lives.
Body of a woman, white hills, white thighs,
you look like a world lying in surrender.
My rough peasant's body digs in you
and make the son leap from the depth of the earth.
I was alone like a tunnel. The birds fled from me,
and night swamped me with its crushing invasion.
To survive myself I forged you like a weapon,
like an arrow in my bow, a stone in my sling.
But the hour of vengeance falls and I love you.
Body of skin, of moss, of eager and firm milk.
Oh the goblets of the breast! Oh the eyes of absence!
Oh the roses of the pubis! Oh your voice, slow and sad!
Body of my woman, I will persist in your grace.
My thirst, my boundless desire, my shifting road!
Dark river-beds where the eternal thirst flows,
and weariness follows, and the infinite ache.
I'd like to get the line "the infinite ache" along the outer curve of my breast, because this poem, for me, takes on a meaning so beautiful and intimate that it should really only be seen by someone who has a similar meaning to myself. That being said, though, I just cannot decide on a font, and I relish some outside opinions.
I've narrowed them down to five, but if you have other suggestions, I'm more than open!
ETA: What should I expect as a reasonable price range? And tipping?
Thanks :)
