Families are wierd things - when my Grandfather died, I found out that he had a brother he'd basically disowned for marrying a Protestant (the story about which imo, is more sad than stupid).

And great news on the job front! More responsibility means more money ;)

If this wasn't devastating news to your mom that her dad had this habit (and I am assuming she already knew this), I think it would be kind of cool to keep finding family members...weird, but cool.
