I just read all parts together and I loved this Jayne! He was so unafraid to be who he was (and to be Mal's)--it made me appreciate him in a whole new way.
I finally caught up on this story. I've enjoyed all parts (and it's been interesting seeing Mal and Jayne's relationship through other people's eyes) but I have to admit that I enjoy Jayne's chapters the most.
He might be simple and straightforward but there's so very much interesting about him. And your narrative in his chapters mimics his speech delightfully well.
I had not kept up with this series when it was first posting so I went to read from the beginning again. It was as good as I remembered. This is the first chapter I had not read when first posted and wow - so hot. So good - Jayne is very much a junk yard dog that you described. Reminds me of this pit bull I once met. Never knew what one looked like and I was visiting a friend and her brother's dog came out to say hello. He was huge and so sweet and I was loving him up, giving him pets. And then she came out alarmed and tried to coax the dog away. She told me his breed and that he bit her brother on a regular basis. And I thought oh great he is sitting in my lap and he does not want to get up because he likes me. No one could coax him away and he followed me the entire time even tried to leave with me. Weirdest feeling, he was so sweet but I never could get over the feeling of danger I had petting him - and that is so Mal's relationship to Jayne.
Oh wow. You may have just satisfied all of my Mal/Jayne needs. I was squealing with delight from the first chapter, and never stopped. I love your characterizations and the plot, and it makes me so happy that people are still writing Firefly fanfiction. (i watched the show for the first time last week and was fully expecting to find only dead links when i looked for fanfictions)
