“What? Being that I’m sly now, I get to notice other men, and he’s real pretty.” Jayne bristled, and then he frowned, his expression turning less certain.

“If Mal catches you saying that, you and Blair are both going to be dead,” Jim warned.

Jayne gave one of his big horse snorts. “Don’t need anyone to tell me that. Mal’s a possessive bastard.” And yet, despite the words, Jayne had a very satisfied expression on his face. Jim’s father just looked more confused than ever.

LOL!

And Blair as mediator for the win!

Well, in this world, Blair is a psychiatrist, so I think that playing mediator is in the job description; however, he's going to do it in Blair style. And he's right... if Jim doesn't suck it up and forgive his father, they're going to be at this for *another* five hundred years.

I like how you show a William who's made appalling mistakes (one sociopathic son, one weak wastrel son, one decent but enraged son) but is still just a human being who thought he was doing the right thing.

I really didn't want him to be an evil villain, just a really screwed up man with an even more screwed up son (Charlie) that he never recognized as evil.

Blair is the psychiatrist in this universe, so I think that he's more than willing to stir the shit a little, but he's still Blair, and that means that his beliefs are always going to push in there. Besides, he's right... these two have been doing this for how many lifetimes now?

Great. But I wouldn't like Blair as a houseguest. Doesn't he need an invitation to start practicing psychiatry on people? Even in traditional fairy tales the devil needs an invitation before he can start screwing your brain.

LOL. Well, Blair is a special sort of devil... the sort that actually loves these two idiots. Well, he doesn't love William exactly, but I think he respects that William did raise one pretty incredible son, and he tried his best.

Well if you want to be fairy tale technical, William Ellison just invited Jim and Blair to stay, insisted on it as a matter of fact, so that gives Blair license to play with his mind. Also fairy talish Blair should refrain from doing harm to his host, but is fixing his mental state and Jim and William's relationship harm? It might hurt and be annoying but is it the sort of harm that violates the rules in fairy tales?
